The Royalty and size of the Expedition Team Rules effective from 1996 Spring.

  1. More than one team may be permitted to climb Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest ) by each separate route in one season.

  2. A royalty of US$ 50,000.00 has been fixed for Sagarmatha for a team consisting of 7 members. The team may include 5 more members provided if it pay extra 10,000.00 for each additional member. The royalty includes trekking fee of the team members. The team members will be granted three months visas. Additional US$ 20,000.00 will have to be paid by the team willing to scale Sagarmatha by normal south east ridge route.

  3. In all regions including Khumbu, an expedition team can have up to 7 members are the minimum royalty, and 5 more members for the additional royalty.

  4. The team already permitted to scale Sagarmatha will have to pay US$ 10,000.00 if it intends to change the ascent route. It will have to pay additional US$ 20,000.00 if it intends to change the ascent route to normal south East Ridge route.

  5. For peaks others than Sagarmatha, the team will have to pay additional 25% of the royalty in US$ to change the ascent route.

  6. Expedition team must complete all necessary administrative formalities and procedures in order to send back to garbage of the expedition team to their respective countries, after the completion of the expedition. Ministry if Tourism & Civil Aviation will take necessary monetary deposit from them, which will be refunded after the dispatch of garbage from Nepal.

Effective from 1992 autumn

The ministry of tourism has fixed the price of the deposit for the management of garbage’s by each mountaineering team who tries to climb any peak in Khumbu region are as follows:

02. Other peaks above then 8000 m. US$ 3,000.00 or equivalent in convertible foreign currencies.

03. All peaks less than 8000 m.

US$ 2,000.00 or equivalent in convertible foreign currencies.

The garbage are divided in to three categories

01.     Disposable in the Khumbu region which are incinerable and biodegradable:

  1. Toilet paper.

  2. Cardboard boxes and paper waste.

  3. Bamboo baskets and mats

  4. Cotton and jute bags.

  5. Spoiled food

  6. Dead bodies

02.     Recycling Materials

  1. Tins, bottles jar and plastic containers.

  2. Plastic and foil bags and sheeting.

  3. Reusable cooking gas cylinders.

  4. Gas canisters.

  5. Re-exportable goods

  6. Used oxygen bottles

  7. Used batteries.

  8. Climbing equipments such as tents, personal gear etc.

Disposable goods should be brought down from the base camp and be disposed in the presence of chairman or ward member of the concerned village development committee. Similarly, recycling materials should be brought back to Kathmandu and hand-over to a prescribed agency for recycling. The re-exportable goods should be dispatched from Nepal to their respective countries and take back the deposited amount.

The Liaison officer will be responsible to enforce the above mentioned procedures. Similarly the leader and the headman will be liable to perform the above mentioned, task in cooperation with the Liaison officer.
