2546th anniversary of Lord Buddha being marked on 26 May

The 2546th anniversary of Lord Gautam Buddha, the apostle of peace is being celebrated today in Nepal and all over the world with different programmes.

In a message to the country on the auspicious day, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba said, "Let us all put an end to violence and killings and move ahead to usher in peace and harmony in the country."

Peace is the first and the last truth without which development is not possible, Deuba said.

Born in Lumbini, the mid-western Tarai region of Nepal as the son of Shakya Dynasty King Suddodhan and his wife Mayadevi, Prince Siddhartha was popularly known all over the world by the name of Buddha after his enlightenment in Bodgaya.
